{"id":4564,"date":"2016-08-09T14:07:01","date_gmt":"2016-08-09T14:07:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.retired-openroad.us\/?p=4564"},"modified":"2022-06-30T21:27:18","modified_gmt":"2022-06-30T21:27:18","slug":"visiting-coeur-dalene-and-sandpoint-id","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.retired-openroad.us\/?p=4564","title":{"rendered":"Visiting Coeur D&#8217;Alene and Sandpoint ID"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re visiting the\u00a0Coeur D&#8217;Alene area and took a drive up to Sandpoint, on the Pend Oreille lake. \u00a0My mom and dad met in Sandpoint during WWII at the USO club in Sandpoint when my dad was stationed nearby at the Farragut Naval Training Center. \u00a0The Farragut Naval Training Center was closed after WWII and is now a state park with lots of camping and lakefront beaches. \u00a0It also includes a museum of the training center located at what used to be the brig. \u00a0It&#8217;s the only building left from the WWII days.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>My parent had a framed photograph of the lake and while we were there we found what I believe is the location of that photograph. \u00a0It&#8217;s somewhat different now, but we took a picture and I&#8217;ve attached the original photograph and the one we took.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We drove through Sandpoint as well and were told that the building that used to be the USO is now the Community Hall. \u00a0We couldn&#8217;t go in as it was locked, but we took a picture of the outside. \u00a0I also attached\u00a0a picture of the USO building as it looked in 1943 &#8211;
